Troma’s most famous character is about to be remade. Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin are set to produce this remake after acquiring the rights to the franchise. Apparently the idea is to make Toxie more family friendly by turning the film into a PG-13 film similar in tone to The Mask. The plan is also to make the film and characters more environmentally aware...so maybe instead of fighting regular bad guys our favourite superhero born out of toxic waste might just be fighting against those who don’t recycle.
Hopefully this remake won’t stop Lloyd Kaufman’s plans to make the previously reported sequel Toxic Twins: The Toxic Avenger V. I would much rather a sequel than a remake. In fact the money Troma will receive for this deal might just help them to fund the planned sequel.
